Wood Etching

Fun with a Laser Etcher

Most of my surface designs end up on fabric … and I love that, particularly when makers share with me what they have created. But a few months ago I discovered my local library had opened a Makerplace. I scheduled a tour and was so impressed with the creative “toys” they have available. But what really caught my eye was their laser engraver.

My creative mind started whirring – a new medium for my patterns! Before I knew it I had created a rather unique art collection. The wood slices I use are all sourced from my habitat restoration work at a local prairie. It would be amiss if I didn’t call out and thank the guys I work with, for their enthusiasm in chainsawing the raw wood slices for me!

My art has been recently featured on Colossal!
